Small Pleasures

Img_4429Creating a card to meet a challenge is always fun. I seem to need a purpose for my art. I've really never been the type of artist that creates for arts sake. I wish I were, but I'm not. I need a reason. And sometimes, well most times, I just have to force myself to create something.

This is for SCS sketch challenge for this week (SC176).

I grabbed Bird Sampler (I drew all of these stamps for CHF) and stamped him using Archival black ink. I then colored him in using Prismacolor markers. Yep, still don't own a single Copic. I'm sure I'll break down one day and buy a few. But for now I'm still enjoying my Prismacolors. (As a matter of fact I just bought their new set of small brush tip markers! Very cute.)

I used a variety of colors. Layering them as I went. It's more of feeling thing, I guess. Hard to tell you what to put where and when. Just Img_4431 know that with markers the first layer is always lighter than the next layer of the same color you put down. This helps when you want to achieve a tonal look to your coloring.

It does take practice to learn to color with markers. And you have to have patience that you will eventually get use to them. And once you do. Oh boy, the illustrations you color will be wonderful!

The background leaf pattern is a SU! set Best Blossoms. Some sets I just won't part with, this being one of them.

I'm finding that working at the kitchen table is okay. I'm having to get up and away from it a lot in order to get stuff. But at least I'm burning calories!

See, I'm looking at the good side of it....hehehehe

So glad you are stamping and creating again!!! What a beautiful card!

Oh he is just beautiful :) Pretty good stuff from your kitchen table :)

Glad your "stamping space" (ie. kitchen table) is working out. You're right, you're burning lots of calories that way! Just think how great you'll look after 100 cards or so - hehehe! Hope you have a blessed day! The bird is so pretty -

Beautiful card and bird image. Love the coloring. I found that when I had to get up to get supplies that I learned what I really used more than other supplies. It helped me in the long run as I thought out my organization. Thanks for sharing your pretty card.

Beautiful, Asela!!! I love your coloring! A true inspiration!

Love this card & layout! Your new banner looks fantastic also!!

Just Beautiful, so good to see your art work once again! Love everything about it!

I love the way you colored the sparrow. He turned out beautiful. I'll have to pull him out and play with him too. Thanks for the inspiration :)

Wow! I just adore this bird Asela and your coloring is perfect!

What a beautiful card! Your colouring is stunning. Thanks for showing a close-up so that as I attempt to colour this stamp ( albeit with Prismacolor Pencils ), I will have a jumping off point. Thanks so much for sharing your art with us!
